2,2‘-Bipyridine-4,4’-dicarboxylic acid CAS: 6813-38-3 is key components of N719 dye. This bidentate ligand complexes with Ruthenium show long lifetime of its excited state, and also the oxidized Ru(III) center has a long-term chemical stability so that this Ru(III)-complex is suitable photosensitizer for Dye Sensitized Solar Cell(DSSC). Graetzel research group at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology made N719 dye (2,2‘-Bipyridine-4,4’- -dicarboxylic acid complexes with Ru(II), NCS-1 as counter ion), applied in DSSC and achieved the solar energy conversion efficiency (η) of 7-10% under AM 1.5 irradiation.
